A rare 1950s poodle handbag by Souré, New York, beautifully illustrated in the photographs with its striking textured black woven body and elaborate applied decoration. The front features a dimensional beaded poodle in black with red highlights, adorned with layered gilt metal leaves, a small floral detail to the eye and a finely worked gilt bow at the neck. Additional gilt floral motifs frame the design and continue along the shaped metal frame. The structured brass-toned frame displays an attractive aged patina, complementing the glossy black sculptural handle. The clasp is secure and in good working order. The interior is lined in black fabric with a gathered pocket and original “Souré Bag New York” label. There are minor signs of use inside, consistent with age, while the exterior presents beautifully.
