This mace strikes a fine balance between heft and agility; its many-faceted head is cast from bronze and it is mounted onto a haft of robust ash wood. A wooden wedge driven into the socket ensures a tight fit and this is further reinforced with glue. The design of this mace dates to the 12th – 14th century and was known to the Rus, Byzantines and the Scandinavian cultures. The many-pronged head delivers multiple points of concentrated and heavy contact onto a target with each blow.
