Tod Cutler – Brass Mace 2 – 9th to 19th Century Scandinavian/ Byzantine / Rus

This mace from Tod Cutler has a head of cast brass which is fitted to a haft of stout ash wood. The head is secured with a wooden wedge into the socket and reinforced with glue. The design of this mace was well known to the medieval Scandinavian, Rus and Byzantine cultures and variants of its design were in use well after the medieval period. The highly faceted mace with many pyramidal heads ensures that a concentrated blow lands on the target regardless of which direction contact is made.
