Milanese Plate Cuirass and Tassets – 16 Gauge Steel – Lord of Battles

This Milanese Plate Cuirass with its broadly curved surfaces was cleverly designed by Northern Italian armorers to both deflect and absorb impact and this ingenious surface shaping can take the bite out of what would have been a debilitating blow or send an arrow harmlessly skidding across its surface. So effective was the armor for this purpose that a V-shaped attachment on the breastplate was mounted to prevent arrows and weapons from deflecting across the breastplate and up toward the neck and chin. This Milanese Cuirass is crafted from 16 gauge steel and its breastplate and backplate halves are joined together and adjusted to fit around the torso with a set of shoulder and side brass buckles matched to tough leather straps. Like many originals the breastplate itself is divided into two major halves with an articulated plackart that slides against the cuirass – Beneath the plackart a series of articulated fauld plates also serve to greatly improve torso articulation
