A Vintage French Opal and Enamel Sterling Vermeil Pendant Necklace

A stunning high quality French necklace crafted in rich gold vermeil, being 9ct gold over Sterling Silver, set with vibrant duplex opals that display exceptional flashes of colour in natural light. The necklace is beautifully constructed with finely tapered links finished in iridescent lime green enamel, each accented with golden banded collars decorated with concentric gold spots over a contrasting black enamel ground. Alternating between these elegant enamelled links are smaller ringed spacer links and settings holding finely polished round opal cabochons. Each opal is securely mounted with four strong claws, allowing the stones to catch and reflect light while showcasing their vivid natural colours. The centrepiece of the necklace is a spectacular pendant featuring a circular donut-shaped element in the same rich gold finish, decorated with a distinctive honeycomb pattern recessed across the surface. Within the inner concentric ring is the same luminous green enamel, surrounding a suspended opal drop at the centre. Beneath this sits a long articulated drop echoing the chain links, connected by a smaller matching link and fully decorated in the same style. All connections are formed with double ring joints, allowing the pendant to move freely and sway gracefully with the slightest movement. The necklace is fitted with a substantial lobster claw clasp in matching vermeil finish, working perfectly. A clear 925 hallmark appears on the claw tooth, and as all the joints are seal welded the mark applies to the entire necklace.
