Russian Medieval Boyar Helm with Chain Mail Camail – 14 Gauge Steel – Lord of Battles

This Medieval Russian Helm is crafted from riveted 14 gauge steel and decorative plates of brass. The steel has been textured to give a rough-forged appearance. The helm has been fitted with a camail of butted round ring chainmail of steel. The interior of the helm is blackened and has been lined with an adjustable leather suspension liner and an adjustable chin strap with a brass buckle. Russian helmets such as this show a relationship to helmets commonly worn by Persian elites as evidenced by the tall, conical top and the extensive chainmail camail protection. The design likely spread from modern day Iran and variants of the design could be seen as far afield from Eastern Europe to India. A helmet such as this could be expected to be seen on a Russian noble Boyar or a professional warrior of his retinue.
